Cross-media ownership laws

Australia’s mainstream media has become too concentrated.

This has resulted in a small number of media companies controlling the content and messaging that is beamed into people’s lives, and more importantly, the content that isn’t beamed into people’s lives. The lack of diversity in reporting has seen trust in the mainstream media decline. It has also seen the loss of local content providers in small communities.

Because big media depend on big corporations and big government for their advertising revenue, this has created a conflict of interest by media not reporting bad behaviour by big corporations and big government.

Media companies will be restricted to owning only two of the three major mediums for communication – TV, Radio and Newspapers.
