Education Policy

Education standards should not be set by career bureaucrats in big government. Education should be a competition of ideas and devolved where possible to schools, communities and parents.

The creation of the National Curriculum in Canberra by the Howard Government has not only created another layer of bureaucracy in the education sector, it has placed greater burden on teachers to comply with dictates from the government bureaucracy whose views do not align with mainstream Australia.

The creation of the National Curriculum has also seen a drop in essential skills such as reading, writing and arithmetic as the Canberra bureaucrats have used their power to introduce "ideologies" into the National Curriculum rather than teaching our children STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) skills.

People First will abolish the National Curriculum and delegate responsibility for it back to State governments and the school community including parent associations. Sex education will be banned from the classroom as it is the responsibility of the parents to deal with these issues at home.
