ABOUT GErard
Gerard Rennick was born and raised on a family farming property just outside Chinchilla, on Queensland’s Darling Downs. His upbringing instilled in him a deep appreciation for the land, its people, and the challenges they face.
He completed his secondary education in Toowoomba before moving to Brisbane, where he earned a Commerce degree at the University of Queensland, followed by a Master’s degree in Taxation Law and a second Master’s degree in Applied Finance.
With extensive experience in senior finance roles across various industries, business types, and countries, Gerard has a strong understanding of the economy and how it impacts consumers, investors, employers, and employees. He is a firm believer in reward for effort and is committed to ensuring that Australia’s small and medium-sized businesses have every opportunity to thrive.
In 2019, Gerard was elected as a Liberal National Party Senator for Queensland, where he fought for strong economic management, property rights, and a fair legal system. However, as it become apparent that the Liberal National Party was more interested in protecting the interests of the establishment than the people, Gerard made the decision to leave the LNP in August 2024 and establish a People First party dedicated to prioritising the needs of everyday Australians.
Gerard has established himself as one of the few politicians in Canberra that is capable of actually providing solutions to problems instead of just complaining about them. He has gained a reputation for holding the bureaucracy to account in Senate estimates and calling out the lies of establishment, both in the public and private sector, when they are pushing their interests.
He is passionate about sustainable land management and protecting our biodiversity, building sovereign infrastructure, and ensuring governments deliver essential services. He does not believe the government should be involved peoples personal lives. As a Senate candidate for People First, he is committed to restoring economic sovereignty, cutting wasteful spending, and putting Australians and their families first.
Gerard is a happily married father of three children.
