A Life Built on Labour
Lance Price was born in 1959 in Monto, the youngest of four children to Alf and Marcia Price. Growing up in a thriving Monto, with its sawmills, butter factory, and sustainable industries like dairy and forestry, he was immersed in a community centered around primary production.
After leaving school, Lance worked on the construction of Cania Dam before contributing to the development of Hamilton Island. His career continued as a self-employed land and development contractor, eventually leading to a role at Boyne Smelters and a rewarding mining career at Weipa.
The Backbone of our Economy
Lance later returned to Central Queensland, working in leadership roles across the coal mining industry. He played key roles in the construction of Caval Ridge Mine, gas projects at Curtis Island near Gladstone, and various Australian mining projects. As a Project Specialist, Lance worked on major projects throughout the Bowen Basin.
A Great Australian Dreamer
In 2007, Lance was honoured with the Indigenous Reconciliation Award from Rio Tinto, where he served as Manager of Indigenous Employment and Training.
