Streamline the Bureaucracy

People First is advocating for a Federal Convention to streamline the duplication of roles and responsibilities of State and Federal Governments which is costing taxpayers billions of dollars every year.

Australia does not need two Education Departments, two Environment departments and so on. Not only is this a burden on the taxpayer, it creates unnecessary and ambiguous regulation that severely impacts productivity.

People First will also reward State Governments for consolidating the large number of councils in Capital Cities with a view to streamlining service delivery at the Local Government level.

People First is also advocating to bring bureaucrats salaries and benefits back into line with public expectations.

We will means-test the gold-plated pensions of retired white-collared bureaucrats (not the military or state scheme for teachers and nurses) which is costing taxpayers billions of dollars every year. In 2021, the Department of Finance estimated the undiscounted cost of this largesse was approximately $340 billion for 165,000 retired bureaucrats, an average of over $2 million per retired bureaucrat.

Term limits of seven years will be introduced for bureaucrats once they are employed at an executive level.

International travel for bureaucrats and backbenchers, other than diplomats will be subject to approval from Parliament.
